Born and educated in England, Audrey attended the St. Helens College. Audrey has also studied in Canada at the Ottawa School of Art, Algonquin College and Carleton University, Ottawa. She has worked in oils, acrylic, screen printing and watercolours and has also taught in those mediums. Always interested in different techniques she has found the study of art like being in a candy shop and wanting to taste everything. However, oil paints have always been the medium to which she has returned. Since 1986 she has worked principally in oils and occasionally watercolour, which she finds useful for capturing a scene quickly. Her work is in many private and public collections, including that of the Government of Canada. Her subjects are landscapes and urban scenes done either on location at home or abroad or done in her studio from sketches and photographs taken on location. Audrey has regular regularly served on boards, committees and juries and has given many workshops and demonstrations. Since 1988 she has also been a guide to the art at the National Gallery of Canada. The paintings of Barnes-Nixon can be seen in her Ottawa Studio and in many exhibitions. Her work hangs in private, public and corporate collections. Welcome to her website. Please view representative work in the gallery section. In 2005 and 2006 Audrey's paintings will be exhibited at the following locations:
